DRAFT
All content on this website is in draft form and subject to change until final approval from the St. Louis County Council.
Spanish Lake is a one-of-a-kind community in St. Louis County
This community has beautiful natural areas, strong neighborhoods, and a rich history.
This Study is an opportunity to envision the future of Spanish Lake together. It will help guide new investment, prioritize opportunities, and explore improvements that could enhance everyday life. Most importantly, this Study will build on what already makes Spanish Lake special, highlighting the best qualities and helping the community stay strong and resilient for years to come.
Thank you for attending the Second Public Meeting!
Thank you to the 46 Spanish Lake residents who attended the second public meeting on Thursday, August 27 from 5-8 p.m. at the Occasionally Yours Banquet Center. The project team shared the draft plan, recommendations, and strategies developed to help guide Spanish Lake’s future during a presentation, after which attendees discussed the draft plan in small groups with the project team. Attendees also enjoyed free ice cream (courtesy of Scoops St. Louis) and soft drinks (courtesy of the venue).
Phase One (complete)
The First Phase of the Study is complete. During this phase, the project team:
Learned about the community — from its land and geography, to the streets and sidewalks, even the way homes and businesses have changed over time
Reviewed data and past plans — to understand what has been tried before and what has worked and hasn’t worked
Listened to residents and community leaders — through focus groups, surveys, committees, public engagement, and more.
Phase Two (complete)
The Second Phase of the Study is complete. During this phase, the project team:
Identified the Issues — understood and identified the things standing in the way of achieving the vision and goals
Created a Community Vision — created a statement that captures the community’s long-term goals and future aspirations
Developed a List of Goals — established goals that will address the issues and guide the community toward the desired outcomes.
This work will help shape and guide the next phase of the Study.
Phase Three (ongoing)
The Third Phase of this study is underway. During this phase, the project team is:
Developing a Draft Plan — creating recommendations and strategies that address Spanish Lake’s current and future challenges, guided by the community’s vision and goals and lessons from other communities.
Continuing Shaping the Study’s Direction — refining the ideas and strategies that will help guide Spanish Lake toward its desired future.
Gathering Community Feedback — meeting with the Executive Committee, Steering Committee, and the public to review the draft plan and hear what residents think.
Thank you for attending the
first Public Meeting!
Over 100 Spanish Lake residents, business owners, community leaders, and people of all ages attended the study’s first Public Meeting on Thursday, May 21st, at the Celebrity’s Banquet Center. Attendees provided feedback on the project goals and community vision and enjoyed tasty frozen treats! This session was conducted as an open house, where attendees could view displays, visit stations, and speak with team members; there was no formal presentation.
Thank you to everyone who shared the event, brought your family and neighbors, and championed this Study. And a huge thank you to our hosts, the Celebrity’s Banquet Center, who provided a welcoming space to host so many community members.
